CIP BUYER’S GUIDE

Size the complete path, not just the skid.

Tank working inventory, circulation duty and heating load answer different questions. A useful sizing review connects them to the actual equipment and cleaning sequence.

01

Working inventory

Add piping and equipment hold-up, return delay, minimum suction conditions and the chosen reserve. Nominal tank volume and usable working inventory are not interchangeable.

02

Supply pump duty

Record the required flow together with the complete pressure loss, elevation and equipment restrictions. Pipe liquid volume does not identify a pump operating point.

03

Return capacity

Check the lowest pickup, collection arrangement, air entrainment and return delay. Supply delivery must be matched by reliable removal from the equipment.

04

Heating demand

Review the starting conditions, required heating envelope, circulation arrangement and available utilities. Confirm how much heat is required during preparation and during circulation.

05

Concurrency and margins

Document the actual simultaneous operating cases and planned expansion. Do not apply an unexplained capacity multiplier instead of identifying the limiting duty.

Common questions

Can vessel volume alone size the CIP skid?

No. Cleaning-device duty, connected pipework, return behavior and the sequence are also required.

Is a pipe-volume calculation enough?

It estimates straight-pipe inventory only. Equipment, fittings, operating reserve and pump duty need separate treatment.
