What conductivity can—and cannot—show

A useful process signal needs a chemical-specific calibration and a clear decision boundary.

A process measurement

Conductivity responds to dissolved ionic species and temperature. Under a known chemical system it can support concentration assessment and distinguish transitions between some media. The calibration, compensation and sensor location must match the application.

A limited interpretation

Mixed soil, residual chemicals and different water composition can alter readings. A threshold that worked for one solution cannot simply be transferred to another. Transition delays and mixing between the sensor and diversion valve also affect routing decisions.

Not a cleanliness certificate

A conductivity value does not prove absence of microorganisms, allergens or all product residues. Use it as one monitored process condition and pair it with the separate validation and verification methods required by the plant.

Technical context

Industry context: Tetra Pak Dairy Processing Handbook — cleaning dairy equipment. This reference provides technical context for cleaning-circuit design; it does not certify or guarantee an equipment configuration.
